what is girly fashion?
girly (also seen as ガーリー[gaarii] / ガーリー系 [gaarii kei]) is a fashion substyle popularized by larme magazine. this style is also known as a more "casual" lolita, keeping the frills, ribbons, and general youthful appearance, but is simpler and can be worn to work.there are many different substyles within girly such as sweet, dark, retro, vintage, and otona (adult). my blog primarily focuses on retro girly, as i also enjoy the dark academia style/aesthetic.
tell me more about the substyles of girly!
sweet girly- light/pastel colors, frilly, lots of ribbons
dark girly- dark colors (black, red), tights, pearl accents
french girly- mix of colors, lace and beaded embellishments
retro girly- beige/cream colors, plaid, longer skirts
otona (adult) girly- mix of colors (muted tones), longer skirts, collared shirts, little/no patterns
vintage girly- pieces found in second-hand storesthese are the main styles i see circulating on tumblr.
my opinion on the terms "jirai" and "jirai kei"
(this is a revision of the post on my blog)
i reblog a bunch of girly outfits from people who label the fashion style as jirai and jirai kei.from the research i have done, this term is meant to demean and ridicule japanese women who are mentally ill. soon after the term was established, the women who were called jirai further pushed a non-recovery mentality, often posting self harm and suicidal ideations online using the jirai tag. since the tag was gaining popularity, brands starting using the tag as well to try and boost numbers. westerners using this term use the guise/excuse of reclaiming it to use it guilt free.tldr; the clothes aren't “jirai” or “jirai kei,” the people wearing them are.to keep this simple: i will not be interacting with the “jirai” community other than reblogging outfits that i wish to gain inspiration from. i will never label anything on my blog as jirai or jirai kei. i will not tolerate anyone from the jirai community harassing me or messaging me telling me im wrong- you will be blocked immediately.
